About
Carter Johnston was born in Hampton Virginia during the penultimate year of the second War-to-end-all-wars. His family moved to Burbank, CA where he attended school through the 12th grade at Burbank High School where he served as both Senior Class President and Student Body President of the class of 1962.
Carter married the always lovely and lovable Tomi Robinson, Student Body President of Verdugo Hills High School, also class ‘62 in 1964. Together they produced 7 children and boast 11 of the most wonderful grandchildren imaginable.
Carter and Tomi worked for Tomi’s mother in a print shop in North Hollywood, California until they knew all there was to know about printing and they moved to Grants Pass, OR where they opened their own print shop patterned and named after the one in North Hollywood. Later they added three Copy shops to their business enterprises and did well as entrepreneurs in Southern Oregon.
In 1979 Tomi suffered a stroke and her father was diagnosed with colon cancer. Afraid that one or the other of them might die, Carter sold the businesses to his print shop manager moved his family (then 6 children) to San Diego where both Tomi and her father survived until his death in 1991. However, Tomi remained paralyzed on the right side and continued to have major speech and language impairment. She was not impaired in love, however and she raised her 6 children for the next several years in spite of her disability.
Being out of work, Carter decided to realize his dream of becoming an attorney. In 1984 he started both his legal studies and their 7th child. The legal studies part was intentional. In 4 years Carter was a practicing attorney and their 7th child was 3 years old. That kid must have thought that fathers sat at desks and peered into books all the time because that is what his father did for the first 3 years of his life.
Now, all 7 of the Johnston children are grown and making their own ways in the world, and doing better things than their parents ever contemplated.
Carter continues his law practice, helping all who ask for help, from his office in Alpine, CA. His varied practice since 1987 has prepared him for a myriad of legal issues and he has solved a plethora of legal problems. Chances are, he can help you too. He can be reached at (619) 722-6003.
